VDP storage cannot be configured in NFS storage

Hello Everybody,

The installation of VDP is completed successfully but the configuration of VDP storage for backups in NFS storage cannot be performed. It always give the error (provided snapshot in the attachment)

My installation and system environment is given below:

  1. The VDP I am configuring is of 1 TB
  2. The NFS storage is of 2 TB
  3. The NFS sharing has been done in a Windows Server 2008 R2
  4. The NFS sharing has been mounted with vSphere
  5. The VDP installation is done in shared storage

I would really be grateful to you guys to get the solutions.

Thank You

Any error messages, or does it just time out when it is supposed to create its datafiles for backup?

Hi,

Maybe a problem with Windows NFS Server ?

From VMware KB: vSphere Data Protection (VDP) FAQ :

Q: Is it possible to mount a CIFS of NFS share directly from the appliance and use these as backup data destinations?
Mounting a CIFS or NFS share directly from or “within” the appliance is not supported. The VDP appliance (.vmdk files) can be deployed to a NFS share mounted by a vSphere host. Windows based NFS shares are not supported.

There is a work around. Migrate the VSD With its disks to a local disk on a host. Create the backup disk here and as a Thin disk, and when done migrate it to its New datastore as thick eager zeroed. This also Works for expansion later.
