Dear guys,
so far i'm not able to say if with standard VDP version it is possible to have incremental backups, do you know if is it possible ?
Cause i need to run full backup and many incremental, or will VDP consider further backups as incremental after a full backup ?
Many thanks in advance guys.
Daniele
Hi,
I think you might be running 5.1 version, the UI is improved in 5.5
But however 5.1 do run incremental backups after a FULL backup.
Recalling again..it leverages CBT.
As i know VDP backup on a VM can turn into FULL in two cases
- if CBT tracking cannot be identified for some reason (a rare case)
-if VM is migrated to another datastore.
Then on, the subsequent backups after FULL are always be incremental.
It is a drawback wrt to user interface in VDP 5.1 that it does not differentiate between FULL and Incremental backups but it actually does incremental backups internally.
VDP does incremental backup by leveraging CBT(Change Block Tracking) feature of vmkernel.
The Backup/Restore VM task while backup is in progress shows either (F) or (I) in task details.
F-Full backup
I-Incremental backup
i'm executing the task but i do not see any F or I in the task detail
can u tell me where that exactly is ?
