We have an HDS 2300 storage array with VAAI support. We are currently going over to ESXi 4.1 (mostly already done) which is using the VAAI API by default.
Our backup strategy until now has been to install a backup agent into each VM and backup directly to our magnetic libraries before being spooled off to tape. Now with better support via the VDDK, we are looking to backup using the VDDK drivers on a Windows host.
My main question is:
Does the VDDK driver in Windows make use of the block-level locking in VAAI?
There is plenty of information about the both technologies, but nothing about whether they are integrated.
Any help would be appreciated.
