VCB Retirement bad news for Standard subscribers

My company doesn't have an Advanced licence for vSphere. As a result, I don't use VDR, I still use VCB.

VCB isn't the most elegant way to backup my machines, but it works. I appreciate updating to new versions of ESX as they come out. I'd like to know what VMware plans to do for Standard subscribers for backup in the next version. Will we be getting VDR licenses, or will we be looking at a rather expensive upgrade, even under subscription?

The vStorage APIs are still availiable to Standard, so any 3rd party backup programs that use them, i.e. NetBackup 7 can backup Standard.

My problem is dropping VCB for ESX 4.1, and the time it takes for a large enterprise to move to say NetBackup 7, its going to be a problem in timing.

Including a backup package, and including a backup API are not the same thing.

I use Backup Exec currently, but Symantec isn't going to feel bad for me, and just give me the VMware agent.
