VCB - LUN sizing.

Hello all,

Here is my situation.

I want to setup a Win Serv 03 VM as a simple Fileserver.

Below is the config I want to use for this machine.

Environment:

ESX 3.5- using SAN storage via iSCSI.

Two LUNS:

LUN 1: Total Capacity 557GB. Configured to hold 4 drives with a total storage of 480GB.

LUN 2: Total Capacity 280GB. Configured to hold 2 drives with a total 246GB.

VM is configured to use only 2GB of RAM.

VCB Setup:

We are using Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 with the VMware agent.

We are using a WinServ 03 Box as our VCB Proxy.

How much swap space on each LUN do I need in order for VCB to successfully backup this VM?

Regards,

Phil

There isn't a swap concept as far as i know, just that VCB proxy needs space (equal or greater than) the VMDK size of the VM, if it is a fullVM backup (as it does a complete vmdk copy).

Also the datastore needs sufficient space for the VCB snapshot to get created.

Rahqa,

Thank you for your response. I already was aware of the minimum, I was kind of looking for a rule of thumb in terms of a percentage.

Ok, sorry in that case, if you were already aware of the info i wrote, ill try and see if i find a percentage ratio somewhere and definitely post it across to you.
