Selecting a backup solution

hi,

hope you can advice me selecting a backup solution, 

We  need to buy Essentials Kit, these do not include data protection so we will need to search for a alternative to backups VMs (powered on).

i would like to use veeam but the licences required increase price too much (1 licence for each socket) so im looking for an alternative, what you could recommend?

until now the cheaper i found was cloudbacko, but searching on forums there are many negative opinions.

vmware VDP will be end of life soon. VMware stopped releasing VDP. going forward there is no backup solution from VMware, but VDDK apis will be relreased which can be used by backup vendors to release their softwares.

Almost all backup giant have solutions for VMware VM backups. We use commvault, the licensing will be bit expensive but feature rich. same goes for symantec netbackup.

Depending on the Service Provider you use, the pricing might be very good. If you already have an onsite backup repository, then you would probably be looking at a per VM cost to use Veeam.

Hi,

I use VMcom Backup Appliance (https://vmcom.com). It is pretty cheap comparing to Veeam and others and comes with some great features.

It should be pretty simple to deploy, manage and use. I might be slightly biased as I was contributing to it, however you can always try it out and make your own opinion 🙂 Personally I do not like overcomplicated solutions, as most of us need to deal with more stuff than just backups.
