Restoring directly to an ESXi host with VMware Data Protection (VDP)

Can I use VMware Data Protection to restore directly to an ESXi host, or do I have to have vCenter Server up and running? (If the VM I'm trying to restore is vCenter Server itself, then it won't work unless I can restore to an ESXi host directly without using vCenter Server...)

You don't need a running vCenter for the emergency restore (direct to host).

You can also use this direct restore to restore a vCenter to a host. I think this is the main reason this feature was developed Smiley Happy
