Restore VMDK from DR backup - duplicate disk UUID

Hi,

I'm trying to add a DR restored vmdk file as another virtual disk to a running virtual machine. However, the existing disk and the recovered one both share the same UUID and so can not be used at the same time.

I could change one of those UUIDs by the "vmkfstools -J setuuid /path/to/vmdk" console command, which solved the issue. Is it the correct (supported) way, however?

Thanks.

Lukas

I can't find a specific article, but I believe that is a perfectly acceptable option, especially since you aren't doing anything to the primary VMDK.

yes Lukas,

This is a recommended way to get a new UUID.
