Hi,
I'm trying to import into vSphere Infrastructure (ESX 4.0 and VC 4.0) backuped machine. I made backup via vcbproxy. For import purpose I'm using Enterprise Converter plugin. When I'm try to open source machine I've got error "Failed to open file
myserver\z$\machine_backup\scsi0-0-machine.vmdk".
I've tried to import locally, remote and always the same error, I've checked two different virtual machine backup. When I'm using standalone converter and I've got files localy I can import machine into ESX.
Thanks,
Are you choosing 3th part as source?
Try to install VMware Standalone Converter on the VCB proxy and run locally.
Andre
Hi, Andre
I can restore machine using standalone converter. The problem is I can't using my Enterprise Converter.
Is there any problem with Enterprise Converter ?
Thanks,
Conveter Enterprise run as a service on vCenter.
If it run as SYSTEM (by default) it cannot use a network share, cause it cannot be authenticaed.
Copy the file locally on vCenter or put on a share without authentication or run the service a domain user.
Andre
Hi,
I changed service to domain user with admin permission on vc server and still the same. It looks like service can open vmx but it can't copy or open vmdk file.
Thanks
Very strange... sorry no other ideas.
I can only suggest to install VMware Standalone Converter on your VCB proxy and restore the VM from there... probably is also a faster solution.
Andre
Only Standalone Converter is supported to import the Backedup VMs using VCB.
page 56 of http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_vcb_15_u1_admin_guide.pdf mentions that.
Hope this Answered your query
