Powered off VMs on esxi

Jump to solution

hello

Is it correct, powered off VMs also make performance issues on hosts.

because host has to keep CPU and memory reservations to power up the VM ... is it correct . if it is correct any link.

second question is which Os version will take more resources, if i create XP and win7 with identical configuration which VM will put more effect on ESX host.

Thanks in advance

Hello VirtualRay,

below is picture from VMware sizing guide for VDI you will find much more useful info in this document:

https://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/view/Server-Storage-Sizing-Guide-Windows-7-TN.pdf

But its always better to do your own measurement through performance counters in vSphere client or by using ESXTOP.

For more info look at:

1. No that is not correct, powered off VM:s doe not reserve any resources.

2. I think that Windows XP uses less CPU and Memory and Disk then Windows 7 out of the box. If you tweak and tune the OS you could get it down to the same levels.
