One VM is unable to power on because the VMDK files are missing

Dear Forum,

We have several VMs installed in a sever, and one of them failed to power on some time ago. I ssh to the server host and found that all VMDK files of that VM (including the -flat.vmdk file) were missing  - only a VMSS file left there.

The loss of the files is most likely due to an unexpected power failure. It's a pity that we did not do any backup for the VM. 😞  I am wondering in this case is there a way to retore it? Any more info needed kindly let me know.

Thanks a million in advance!

Regards,

Leo

Hi Leo

please read Create a VMFS-Header-dump using an ESXi-Host in production | VM-Sickbay

With a dump like that I can tell you wether I may be able to recovery the lost vmdks.

Call me via skype if you run into any problems.
