MS SQL agent does not register with VDP

Does anyone know how to re-register a SQL agent with the target VDP appliance?

I installed the Microsoft SQL Server agent on a server. During install, I type in the FQDN (not the ip address) of the target VDP appliance. When I try to create the backup job on VDP, this happens. I start the wizard, pick Applications > Full Server. From a list of backup sources I pick Microsoft SQL Server...Loading spinner and error message, "There are no registered Microsoft SQL Server available. The group has been removed." The remove refers to that item no longer visible in the backup source list if I retry the wizard.

I can putty/ssh to the VDP appliance and run this cli command >mccli client show --recursive=true. The server I want is not in the list. So far, I am doing another install at the MS server to see if I can catch a DNS problem, a firewall problem an operator error problem or banging oin it repeatedly until it magically works. I even executed the agent msi installer from an elevated cmd prompt. But alas, no joy.

I will put this out here for a bit then signal VM support for help.

Windows 2008 R2 64 bit, 32GB RAM

VDP SQL agent version 7.1.181.107 (that came with the following)

VDP 6.0 appliance, Version 6.0.1.5

I have some good news, I retried it with the ip address instead of the hostname and it took. So, I have some shenanigans going on in the DNS. Anyways, it felt good to narrate it out. I'll leave it here for the collective to someday find it of value.

Thanks, PatrickAZ
