Is there any way to be notified via email of VMware DR Failures and/or successes?

We are currently using the VMWare Data Recovery app to backup our VM's, however, we'd like to know if a backup fails without having to log into the console using vsphere and manually checking.

Has anyone set this up?

Can't be done, at least as currently implemented.

Try waiting for VDR 2.0 Smiley Happy

It seems the log entries, what is seen in VDR plugin, are recorded inside Config10.dat inside /var/vmware/datarecovery folder of the VDR appliance.

VDR is just a Linux (CentOS) and you can run / schedule script jobs inside it. Though Config10.dat is in binary format, using "strings -e l" of that file produce readable outputs. ( strings is from binutils rpm package, you need to install it as VDR appliance does not have this package, using strings to read the file with minus e small L i.e. encoding 16-bit littleendian ).

The output looks to have certain formatting that one could run it through a Perl script to extract suitable parts and mail it off.

This is what I am thinking of. Not perfect but the email report will depend on how well you write your script to interpret the logs or just email out the raw logs for human consumption.

Can also include the amount of space left on dedupe destinations in the email as well to keep track of it.
