I"m currently running vSphere Data Protection 6.1 on a Windows 2012 server with vCenter 6U1. Is it possible to increase the number of cpus the vdp is using without increasing the storage as well? I'm finding that my backup are spiking my cpu usage however, I'm happy with where my storage level is.
I would appreciate any help, thanks.
I have vDP 5.8.3 appliance and was wondering the same thing. It has four CPUs (and 8GB ram) now, but I notice there are stretches during the backup where the CPU usage spikes to 100% for 10 mins or so - and it's only backing up two VMs. The min requirements call for 4 CPUs, but I can't find anywhere saying if/when to add more CPUs, and if there are any cons in doing so.
You can increase the number of CPUs up to 8. You can also increase the memory, which will also speed up the backup.
