How to use Data Recovery with VSA for disaster recovery plan

Hello,

I have to build a small VMware architecture with Storage Appliance for a customer, and I'm not used to do it yet.

Here is my customer case :

  • We have 2 physical servers in the Data Center 1 (DC1)
  • We have 1 other physical server, but located in the Data Center 2 (DC2)
  • The customer wants High Availability for the DC1, and a solution of disaster recovery plan for DC2

Here is my design :

  • License : VMware Essentials Plus 5 + Storage Appliance
  • Cluster with the 2 ESXi servers of DC1 (with storage appliance), and an external vCenter
  • Standalone ESXi server in DC2 (only for DRP)
  • Use of Data Recovery to backup virtual machines on a NAS (located in DC2)
  • If DC1 fails, I want to be able to run the virtual machines on the standalone ESXi server, through Data Recovery

My questions :

  • Is my design correct?
  • Are there pre-requisites to run Data Recovery with the standalone server in DC2 ? (2nd vCenter, 2nd vSphere license...)

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Sylvain
