How to backup the VDP appliance offsite for Disaster Recovery

Hey all,

I am trying to find out how to back up the VDP appliance offsite for disaster recovery.  We have 5 - 6 virtual servers that backup to the VDP appliance and that process works fine... but what happens if the building catches of fire and destroys the ESXi hosts that the VDP appliance is on?  How do you backup the VDP appliance offsite (using a cloud service like AWS or Azure or something)?

Thanks

You cannot backup a VDP appliance itself as the data drives are independent persistent and you cannot snapshot them.

If your DR has a VC with ESXi (of essentia+ or higher) Then you can deploy another VDP here and use this as a replication target.
You will be replicating your backup data from VDP1 to VDP2

If you do not have a vCenter, then a more crude workaround is to manually copy the data disks to a disk to an offline tape.
