How to Backup Multiple Win 2008 VMs on Single Host to Rotated USB External Drives

Hi:

My environment is a single ESXi 4.1 host with (4) Windows 2008 Servers.  I have (2) external USB drives that I want to rotate for backup.  I plan to use the built-in Windows Backup on each VM.

I've cfg. a USB controller for my VM with the most data and cfg. it to attach to the USB drive.  The VM sees the drive and I've shared it so that the other VMs also can write to it.  I've cfg. Windows Backup in each VM to backup to the external USB shared drive and the backups are working.

However, when I swap/rotate the USB drives so I can take one offsite, the newly attached drive is no longer shared and thus the backups fail.  Is there a way to achieve successful drive swaps in this scenario and/or is there a more standard way that most people handle this requirement?

Thank you!
