How To take a offline or online backup of a VM ?

I need to take a online backup of a VM .Can you please suggest the procedure?

For online backup of VMs I suggest finding a vendor that is focused on enterprise online backup.

We chose to go with Zetta.net since they were very affordable and do both physical server & VM online backup with one solution.
