I understand Zero Downtime Backup works as an application integration for database applications. However I need to know if ZDB only works when integrated with specific applications (Exchange/SQL/Oracle/SAP etc), or whether it can be used to write any snapshots to tape/file. In particular I would like to know if a LUN formatted as VMFS presented to an ESX host/virtual center can be snapshotted and written to tape using ZDB.
I will be using HP EVA 6400, vsphere v4
