Downtime associated with Snapshots associated with Backups

We use a mix of vSphere 5.5 and 6.0 environment and uses Veem (version 9.x) for backing up purposes. Veem takes a snapshot of the VM, and uses the snapshot of the VM for Production purposes while the original VM is being used for the backup. Once the backup is over, Veem consolidates the snapshot with the original VM. A downtime is felt during this consolidation. This downtime is experienced for 10 mins to 30 mins in all of the large VMs (with ~150GB - ~350GB) where they become unavailable (we can’t ping the VMs during this time).

These VMs doesn’t seem to have any special character. They are mixture of Windows and Linux VMs running different workloads including Exchange, Web and DB servers.

Has anyone come across this issue before? Any known resolution.
