Data protection used for two vCenters

Hello,

I'm trying to configure a Data Protection on my VMWare environment.

I had three vCenters, LAB, PROD1 and PROD2.

My intention is configure the Data Protection to backup data from two or more vCenters. Do I need to configure one Data Protection per vCenter Server?

Can I perform the cross configuration? Like DataProtection of PROD1 environment backup data from PROD2 vCenter and DataProtection of PROD2 environment backup data from PROD1 environment?

I tried to perform that on initial configuration and received an error telling me that VDP is not find in vCenter inventory.

Thanks

Hi,

yes you need to configure at least one VDP appliance per vCenter server, as the appliance can only be registered to one vCenter server at a time.

You can have up to 10 VDP per vCenter, but unless I missing something, you cannot have a VDP registered to more than one vCenter.

OK, no problem if I need to use on vcenter for one VDP, but can I make a cross configuration?

Can I use the VDP from vCenter1 to backups VMs from vCenter2. How I said, I tried to add this cross configuration on initial setup and didn't work.

Thanks

Hi,

no you can not. The VDP appliance can only backup the VMs that are available in the inventory of the vCenter server which the VDP appliance is registered to.

Maybe you can take a look at vSphere Replication: VMware vSphere Replication: Efficient Virtual Machine Replication | United States

Hello,

Replication is not an option for me, I need the backup. And replication tool will not use deduplication like VDP, requiring more space to perform the replication task.

Thanks
