  • 1.  Data Recovery Appliance - how to login?

    Posted Sep 16, 2009 03:18 PM

What is the username/password for the Data Recovery Appliance? It's not taking anything and I don't remember setting one up when I created it.

Reason I'm trying to get in, is I'm getting the 3498 error or whatever and recommendation from forums is to ensure appliance can resolve with ESX hostnames. I assume to do that I need to go into the etc/hosts and add ESX hostnames to resolve, but I can't get in.

I can't browse to the https:// address of the appliance either, which I assume is because it's not resolving.

    Please help.

    login: root

    password:

...iIs the default userid/password. Check the IP you assinged to it (if any). If not, it could be using DHCP. You should see a prompt to change the settings in the vSphere client or use the web interface.

    From the Admin Guide

    http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vdr_10_admin.pdf

In the Credentials page, enter a username and password and click Next. Data Recovery uses this information to connect to vCenter to perform backups, so the specified user

    account must have administrative rights.

If you are connecting via VDR vSphere Client plug-in, then It is asking for a password valid for vCenter Server. Usually the same login/password that you use to open vSphere Client will also work here. Most, if not all of what you can do with VDR is accessible from the VDR vSphere Client plug-in

There is a default login and password for the appliance (someone responded to this earlier) - this is only needed if you are accessing the appliance directly using a console connection.

In summary, use the same username and password that you use to access vCenter Server.
