Connecting from vCenter Appliance 5.5 to VDP 5.8 hangs

I know it's old stuff but I really need to make it work. After going through all the workarounds possibly needed finally got VDP 5.8 (5.8.4.6) to deploy, configure and register with vcenter. First the famous configuration loop which was fixed following this article https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2148179​  Of course BEFORE every new attempt for registering VDP I followed this two articles https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2038356 and https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2122684  And now it's running and configured correctly judging by connecting to it at https://my-VDP-IP:8543/vdp-configure/ - services are running, time is synced. The problem now is that I cannot connect to it from the vCenter web client. When I hit the "Connect" button it just hangs like in the screenshot until the session expires with no errors. I thought it's browser and/or OS related so I tried form Windows XP, 8.1 and 10 with Crome, Firefox, IE and it's just the same every time.

First of all, should I say that VDP is EOA? and also are you using vSphere 5.5? wow...

VDP had a LOT of problems and one those problems was the stability, this is why I think it was deprecated.

No need to say that you MUST change your Backup product for another more reliable...

Anyway, I can only suggest you to check if the maintenance is running or to restart services from VDP.

Also, did you try to access with the Thick client?

  Unfortunately VDP (backup jobs) is only managed through the nightmare web client. Of course I'm using the thick client for everything than can be managed through it but for VDP you can only check that the plugin is available.

  I was desperate enough to install even flash player and an old version of Firefox on the windows machines I use to connect to vcenter. Is it possible that I also need some old java version installed?

Well I was going to suggest you to use old browsers but if it doesn't work...

Maybe other people can help.

VDP was (and still is) like a leper that people tended to keep at arm's length or better. I think you'd have better luck getting something to work from modern memory.

Which ones exactly? There are lots of different types of logs in the /var/log/vmware/vsphere-client/ folder of the vcenter appliance and all seem relevant. Meanwhile I'll make a new deployment today in order to generate fresh errors

Did you try other versions, newer than 5.8 ? We have working version 6.1.8, if I remember right (and yes, with vcsa 5.5)
