Backup vSphere with HP Data Protector 6.0

Hi,

We are currently using VI 3.5 Enterprise, with several clusters and Datacenters, and using HP DP 6.0 with the VCB integration script: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12...

We are considering an upgrade to vSphere, but we're afraid to lose the ability to backup our VMs, since VCB has also been upgraded in vSphere, and HP doesn't support the new VCB with their integration (only through upgrade to DP 6.1, which will cost us a lot in new agents).

So my questions are:

1. Will I be able to use the old VCB with vSphere?

2. Has anybody tried using the DP 6.0 integration with the new VCB?

Any other ideas?...

Thanks,

Tal

Hi,

i think the vcb does not change serious! But you need the new vCenter Server.

So why you are not use the new Feature of vSphere?

Well I've read here that the vmware product isn't production ready, and that it it's problematic with file-level restores.

In addition, we would like all of our backups to be taken with one backup software (DP) instead of spreading backups across different tools.

If you're saying that VCB hasn't changed much, I'll try testing it in a lab to see if it works with DP 6.0.

Thanks.

Yes you can do it.

Give an update if it is ok with ne odl HP/Vmware Kit.

We

are using HP DP6, too. But i was very unhappy with the VCB. i have to

backup over 80VMs in a very smal timewindow! so i have to change my

strategy!

now all my esx host got an CX4 Interface(10Gig) an i backup all my machines via network!
