Backup of vSphere Data Protection 5.1 Appliance

Hi everyone,

Is there a way to backup VDP Appliance in case it fails I can use the backup to just fireup and reuse the backups?

Many of my clients are having issue with VDP where the appliance just fails to start an others weird issues and I have to install a new VDP appliance and customer looses all its backups. It doesn't make sence!

Thank you in advance.

First thing is you cannot backup VDP appliance using VDP.

Secondly, i would prefer vSphere Data Protection Disaster recovery as mentioned in the admin guide

You're right. Only way to "backup" VDP is replication as snekkalapudi said. See vSphere Data Protection (VDP) and vSphere Replication (VR) Interoperability | VMware vSphere Blog - ...
