First of all, before selection a backup sloution you need to think of the below main points,
1 - What is the total Data size ?
2 -What will be the Data growth per year ?
3- What the required or what is the RPO and RTO objectives which your oraganisation planning to achive.
There are many solution, in my experience i am suggestion the below;
1 - For Databases, Exchage etc there should be separate solution, to get the exact DB tables, DB state and mailbox etc.
2- For VM level backup, you can use Veeam, VMware VDR, Symantec backup exec,
3 - In arrays like HP 3PAR, there is separate solutions for VMWARE, DB and EXCHANGE, this will be occuring in the LUN level that is in the Storage block level. I am not sure how this technology works with the DB tables and mailbox restore, i didnt done this.
4 - In my experience, 2 backup systems is needed, one for the file level and other for the VM level.
5 - If possible implement D2D2T, backup architecure.
6 - If possible get the Deduplication capable arrays like, Netapp, etc.
7 - For backup, you can use 10G ISCSI SAN, with Cisco and Netapp storage.
