Backup access switches between LAN and SAN

Hi,

we use Symantec backup exec 2014 to backup our vSphere 5.5 environment. We have activated to use LAN for backup if the direct access to the SAN is not possible. But some machines are backuped up via LAN even if there is a working access via SAN.

Maybe it is a Symantec problem, but for the moment we are also searching on the vSphere side and could not yet find any differences.

Maybe someone has/had the same problems or has any idea...?

Regards Wolfgang

To be able to backup VMs via SAN, the backup server (or a proxy server) need access to the LUNs where VMs residing... if this is not true, the backup will be done via LAN.

I'm not familiar with Symantec solution, but this KB show a example of requirements to make backup via SAN: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH155831

The article that was provided is a good one and also checkout the Backup Exec 2014 HCL for your SAN  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH214803

I read in the above mentioned documents but couldn't find any helpfull information about our problem.

Now a week later it is so, that exactly the same 4 VMs have been backuped up via Network and all other (over 150) VMs have been backup up via SAN.

We did not yet find any similarities on these machines. They use the same LUNs as other one backing up pretty fine. We could not yet isolate something configured the same way on these 4 VMs and which is different to all others....

The backup settings on symantec side are the same too.

For the moment we don't have much ideas but still try to find something......
