Backing up a VM through vCenter ?

Is there any way of backing up a Virtual Machine through vCenter, other than downloading with the DataStore Browser? I installed VMWare Consolidate Backup on the vCenter machine hoping that it would somehow integrate with vCenter, but doesn't appear to.

It would be great if vCenter would let you copy to another directory on the DataStore, but apparently it does not allow that. (Why - it clearly has read/write access to the files.)

Hi Netlib,

There is no "backup" functionality inside vCenter. You can clone a VM or create a snapshot to have a kind of one-time-backup.

VCB is in fact a package of scripts you can use for backup industrialization or integration into another true backup tool. There is no GUI for VCB.

You can also have a look at VDR.

There is no integration between vCenter and VCB. FYI VCB is no longer supported and declared end-of-life.

So you have to use vStrorage-API enabled product. You can use VMware Data Recovery as a cheapest alternative, but the best product IMHO is Veeam Backup.

If you have Conveter plugin you can use the export function.

If you have VDR license there is a plugin to integrate it with vSphere Client.
