Backing up VMware VM's

We are backing up our VM's with BackupExec 2012 up until a month ago the VM backups were running fine using the SAN as the transport.  Now they are wanting to only run over the network.  The only thing that has changed is for some reason the backup server seems to have initialized the luns that the VM's are on.  Is there a way for me to un-initialize these so we can get back to backing up via SAN?

Any help is great.

Thanks

Can you please clarify this? Did the server change the partition type, i.e. from VMFS to NTFS?

The volumes are still VMFS as the VM's are still working fine.  The only think I can see that may have changed is for some reason the Windows server see these drives as initialized, so as if it has written a signature to the drive.

Does that make sense?

The volumes are still VMFS as the VM's are still working fine.

That doesn't necessarily mean the partition type is still VMFS. Please verify the partition type for all VMFS volumes using either fdisk -lu or partedUtil getptbl /vmfs/devices/disks/... (depending on the ESXi version) from the command line.
