BE2010-vm not listed in Restore view to restore individual files(GRT)

Hello,

I am using vSphere Agent policy(Differential) in BE2010 to backup a vm-fs (file server).

PROBLEM: GRT is selected BUT when I want to restore a file the vm-fs' FQDN is not in the Restore view. It is backing up the entire vmdk. Am I missing something?

I will apreciate your ideas, thanks!

vm-fs' details:

  • vmdk is in a shared datastore(LUN) in our CX300 system.

  • vm-fs has two virtual disks.

  • RAWS on vm-fs installed.

  • datastore is attached to our BE2010 phisical server.

BE2010 info:

  • Agent for VMware Virtual Infrastructure.

  • It has FC access to the shared datastore(LUN). It sees vm-fs.

Full&Differential backup job info:

  • See attached document!

Sorry for the delay, I was out of the country. I asked for help in technical support in Symantec and I got an answer. I'll check that and I'll let you know.

Do you have be remote agent installed on vm?

If u use vcenter, try to backup selecting vm from the esx host instead from the vcenter in be selection list

Hello,

Yep, I found that workaround yesterday and I'll try it today and see what happens. Symantec is working on this case, I opened a ticket and they working on it. Check this out: http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/351420.htm

Thank you and I'll let you know!

Hello,

After a lot of research from my end and Symantec this is what they told me so far:

"I wanted to let you know that I have written this issue up as a defect for my engineering group to look into" 6/17/2010

One thing for sure is that GRT does not work if you select the VM using vCenter. It has to be connected directly to the ESX host where the VM is running.

I am still waiting for a fix!

The fix is to connect directly to the ESX host where the VMs you want to backup(GRT) are.

BUT make sure you change DRS for that VM to disable or manual.   if DRS vmotion the vm to a different Host then the vmware agent for BE2010 won't be able to find the VM.Smiley Happy
