Hi,
We had # of ESXi host and Avamar backup application integrated. We are running very fine.
But there is one issue we are facing it with Avamar. There are delta files which are leftover in the datastore. After releasing it from Avamar Proxy and deleting the delta file. We are able to run the backup successfully.
So actually my query is
1) Why delta files are left after successful completion of backup through Avamar ?
2) Where the issue is with VMware or with Avamar ?
3) How to fix the issue ?
Note: Discussion successfully moved from VMware vCenter™ Server to Backup & Recovery
There was a similar discussion here that may be of help.
I am using VDP (Under the hood, it is Avamar Engine). Most of the backup applications that runs on VMware bypasses the job of removing snapshots to vCenter. So backup application requests the remove snapshot which is actually executed by vCenter.
Problem can be either side -
1. Is Avamar's 'Remove snapshot' call to vCenter executing fine ? /* This case, issue is with Avamar, which is not very likely */
2. vCenter might be receiving the call from Avamar but failing to remove the delta disk /* This case, issue is with vCenter. Most likely case */
How to get around the issue. If delta disks are left out, you might see a warning symbol on the VM and message 'Consolidate the disks'. You can right click on the VM -> Snapshot -> Consolidate (Which consolidates all the delta disks to the base disk)
Hope this helps.
can you have a look at your underlying storage to check if its supported by VMware.... Can you try storage vmotion of your avamar VM and then check if the same issue happens
