Just curious if anyone out there is using VCB with NetApp over FC, and what their configuration is on the proxy side.
Yes I've got customers using it. They don't have a special config. Just a regular proxy host with a single link to the NetApp and another to the destination (cheap fc based storage box)

Yes, I was curious about the single link part, given that VCB does not have NetApp on the supported multipath list. So, we are back to the good old days of a single path to the storage.
Do you know which initiator group type must be used for the VCB proxy? VMware or Windows?
Thank you
I saw somewhere that the LUNs should be set the same way as when presented to the ESX Servers, so it should be set as VMware if you have the choice. Although I have seen it set as Windows as well and there seem to be no adverse effects.

Yes it works, we use it. However with 1.0 it would at least do SAN backups NOW with 1.01 it doesn't detect the SAN volumes, and instead it does Network backups....
So not sure how to fix that yet, but everything else is working fine, but it should use the SAN.
You may want to do a vcbSan dbg and see what IT sees. You may have an issue with the NetApp MPIO. Try uninstalling that if you are using it.

2 things I did.
- I INSTALLED VDR 1.0 (SAN backups worked)
- I INSTALLED VDR 1.01 (SAN Backups STOPPED working).
Absolutely nothing else was changed. So if MPIO was a problem before, then why did the SAN backups work? Now it's not working, so apparently there is yet another bug in VDR.
That's my point.
I even reinstalled ESX on the host (thinking there was some weird configuration going on). I even moved VDR to a different ESX host with access to the SAN, same problem.
I will try the vcbSan dbg and see what it sees, but I didn't change anything on the hosts, the Fibre Switches, Netapp, or any of that.
OK You're talking about VDR... Different subject. Sorry, I thought you meant VCB... vcbSanDbg is for VCB, not VDR.
You say you INSTALLED VDR 1.01. Was it an upgrade or a fresh install? If it was an upgrade, did you try a fresh install? Sorry if you tried this already, take a deeep breath and count to 1000.

Yeah both, tried reinstall, re deploy I even reinstall VCenter last night (because of other issues) still not working.
It's time to call VMWare. And I am probably up to 6257, 6258, 6259 . . . .
Yeah...I figured you already tried it. I saw your other post too. Sorry, I haven't seen the issue yet. Haven't had a chance to look at VDR 1.01.
OH - that was 1,000, not 10,000 :o0
