vCentre Server as a VM?

Afternoon.

I would like comment on the pros and cons of installing vCentre Server within a Windows VM?

The install in question is Essentials Plus, with three hosts, utilitising HA for some VMs. I'm concerned that HA would not be able to work if the host running the vCentre Server VM were to fail, but presume that vmware must have through about this Smiley Happy

Thanks

James.

Once you have HA setup, the hosts will take care of failover without the need for the vCenter server to be online. See page 6 - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_vc_in_vm.pdf.

You do get some redundancy with vCenter being a VM, two of which are HA/DRS.

....as stated vCenter is only needed in the initial configuration of HA, after that HA is not dependent on vCenter. However if your vCenter Server goes down, DRS won't work.
