What do you want to backup?

The ESX configuration or the VM status.

To backup the VM you can use a backup solution for virtual environment.

If you want to reduce the downtime in failover case you have to consider some replication solution.

For example, with Veeam you can also replicate the VM to the second ESX.

I wanna have two identical vSphere server.

And If I update anything on one server all the changes must be propogated to the second server.

Just like a server that I can use in case my primary server goes down.

The state of a ESX server is based on two part: ESX configuration and VM state.

The ESX configuration does not change so fast and is NOT so important: you have only to give a consinstent networking (for example same name of port group) and time.

The VM state is what you want to sync, and you can use replication solutions as written before.

Or use a shared storage.

All you need to do is cluster the ESX Hosts (Put them in a cluster . . simple as that)

Then, host your Oracle on shared network storage (NFS / SAN etc)

If your one host dies, the other host will pick uop where the first left off.

You can use VMWare FT to run a duplicate copy of the VM in a read only state if you like, which will mean that you are effectively ruuing your environment double up.

Have a look at :

One day I will virtualise myself . . .

Sorry if I was not clear.

I have a VM and Both the DB and vSphere server are on that VM. I registered all the ESX host under on cluster and its working fine.

Since the VM was used as a proof of concept and to get familiar with ESX. Now we want to move everything from the VM to a physical machine.

We alredy have vSphere setup with oracle on the physical machine. We want to move all the VM's Template and Hosts on new vSphere server.

And we dont want to loose any of the VM/Template present on the Vm.

Thanks

I think what OP really wants in the end is this:

- 2 databases and 2 vsphere installs on 2 machines.

- If the "primary" vspheredb combination goes down, he wants to be able to switch over to the second "standby" vspherdb

Is that doable? Am I right in understanding this is the question?
