What vmware solution should I use ?

Hi ,

situation:

I have 1 SAP server that running in windows server platform, I would like to perform below task by vmware technology:

1/ convert the physical SAP server into VM by P2V converter & import to my ESXi4

2/ keep the SAP physical server running, the VM shadow sync with the physical server as time by time (ie: every 15 mins)

3/ set up the physical server together with the VM as HA / FT whatever (I have tried the Vsphere HA/FT, but it only allow setup betweens VMs...but not among physical machine and VM...)

Goal:

1/ when the physical server down, the shadow VM inside the ESX4i will start and take over the SAP server role, of course all SAP data is only update till last sync.

Would you pls advice what Vmware solution package & the rough setup of how to achieve it ?

There are third party tools that can help you but nothing directly from VMWare

You can use DoubleTake HA or Platespin Protect, both will replicate (on real time) your physical SAP to Virtual Instance
