Hi everyone,
Please consider the following set up:
VM1( Primary)--EXSI1--VMK1-(FT Logging)---VMK1-ESXI2-VM1 (SEC)
Above:
Both ESXI1/ESXI2 are part of a cluster.
This Cluster has HA enabled ( only Host failure will trigger HA to start a VM on different host, all others features are disabled)
VM1 is enabled for fault tolerance.
Design goal:
When VM1 shuts down /restarts, VM1 ( SEC) should take over as Primary
In my set up I observed following:
1) The second I shutdown VM1 ( primary), VM1 ( SEC) shuts down too. When I disable FT Logging on VM1 ( Primary), VM1 ( secondary) vanishes.
2) If I restart VM1 ( primary), same action is performed on VM1 ( SEC) automatically as a result VM1 ( secondary ) restarts too.
Keeping the above behavior, is there any way we can acheive our design goal using FT?
Thanks and have a good day!!
I'm pretty sure thats not how it works, you can't shut down one, its more designed that if a host fails unexpectedly the vm stays running. FT isn't a loadbalancer, so I'd try not to design as if it is one.
