VM Failover and restart time with vSphere HA

Hello,

What factors would affect how long it takes for vSphere HA to failover VMs from a failed host to another active host in the cluster? Would it matter how much disk space the VM is using or how big it is? Or that should not matter?

Thank you

It should not matter. HA initiates the failover and powers on the VM irrespective of the size. However, note that, there might be delay in OS/App bootup time.

Another parameter that may affect the failover time is the number of VMs being failed over at a given time. If you have more healthy hosts in the cluster, then VM failovers happen concurrently thus reducing the failover time.
