Hello,
We have recently invested in a new HA/DRS cluster, and we're experiencing an issue when testing.
If I remove the iSCSI connections from any of the ESXi 4.1 hosts, the VMs running do not power off and migrate to another host. Instead, it appears that they are suspended, and when the storage is plugged back in, they start working again, as if nothing had happended.
Is there any settings I need to configure further?
We have vMotion working properly.
Thanks
Haydn
is vmware HA setup with no error message?
Hi Idle-jam,
VMware HA is setup, but I don't get any error message at all when the storage is removed. The only thing that changes is under Storage, the iSCSI LUN which has been presented says 'Inactive' on that particular host.
HA currently protects against host failures, not loss of storage.

True. The way to test VMware HA is remove network connections or make a cold reboot of a host.
To protect for storage failure you must use multipath and of course a storage with good redoundacy.
Andre
Simply pull the power plug on the host, or remove your network patches.
Thanks very much for the replies everyone. I wasn't aware of this at all.
I did try configuring some alarms on the hosts to power off when the storage wasn't available, but this didn't really work.
HA does work with the networking and power cut off though so I'm happy with that!
