Monitoring Free Disk Space for ESX partitions all versions, and ESXi partitions

Recently we had an issue where a single process created multiple .CORE files that filled up the partition where var resides. This killed a lot of ESX functionality.

Is there a way to monitor the free disk space and send out alerts for ESX. We have many ESX host systems, and not monitoring ESX/ESXI at the host OS level for common monitoring stats is not longer acceptable for our Enterprise.

Also If this functionality does not exist currently then how do I have it added into the next release

Hello,

This is really a statement of how you layout your partitions than anything else.... However, You can also run tools like 'vdf' periodically from within VMware ESX service consoles. For VMware ESXi you are looking at different tools. You may also be able to get some information from the VI SDK but it may not be updated as you need.
