How does FT detect VM failure?

Hi everyone,

How does FT detects VM failure ? is there a FT heart beat ?

I have been looking , found tons of docs about how HA detects Host failure using network heart beats and data stores heart beat.

Most of links I found on FT describes how FT works , but no detail how a VM failure is detected by FT's feature.
