Help needed - vSphere HA unsuccessfully failed over VM

Hi All,

Setup is as follows:

Two ESX servers (esx01, esx02) are connected to HP VSA and have two volumes added as shared datastores (shared-small, shared-large). Each ESX server has 4 NICs with each connected to an uplink on the same uplink dv-portgroup. The uplink dv-portgroup is connected to 4 dv-portgroups - Mgmt, Storage, vMotion, BackupMgmt. The two esx servers are part of a cluster with DRS and HA turned on with all teh defaults.

vMotion works well without issues.

Current setup has 1 VM on esx01 and 2 VMs on esx02. If I reboot esx01 to test vSphere HA - I immediately see an error message of "vSphere HA unsuccessfully failed over VM". The esx01 server shows disconnected since it is rebooting. The VM on esx01 also shows disconnected. As esx01 starts to come back online, the VM that would reside on it moves its resources to esx02.

Overall, the moving of the VM from esx01 to esx02 happens but the error message of "vSphere HA unsuccessfully failed over VM" and the time taken to move the VM is something that I cannot understand.

Any help or advice is much appreciated.

Please check if you experience the issue described here:

What version of vSphere are you using?

Are there more detailed error events shown in the event tab?
