FT Not working - configurations looks good

Hi,

I have two brand new servers (Dell R710), both equipped with 2 x Intel Xeon X5650 and 48Gb of Ram. I'm using ESXi 4.1 and vCenter Server 4.1. I have created a cluster and enabled HA successfully. But now when I enable FT on a VM, it gives me the following error:FT_Error.PNG

I have enabled sitesurvey and everything is green...

Don't know where else to look Smiley Sad

Thanks for your help...

May SRV1 and SRV2 are in same Host, to FT works fine, you need separate SRV1 and SRV2 between 2 differents hosts vsphere.

I think you did not understand. Srv1 is my 1st host, and Srv2 my second host...

For info, I can successfully vMotion the virtual machine between srv1 and srv2...

Your secondary VM can't live on the same physical host as your primary.  You need to make sure that the FT VM is being created on another host.

Also, you need to make sure that you have a Fault Tolerance Portgroup created on each host.  Can you post a screencap of your vNetwork configuration?

Hello.

Note: This discussion was moved from VMware ESXi™ 4 community to the Availability: HA & FT community.

What else can you tell us about your setup?  Are you using shared storage, any DRS rules, etc?

Good Luck!

I know it can't be on the same host, but when I enable FT on the machine, it is sitting on Srv1, it creates the secondary successfully on Srv2, then tells me it's not possible to turn off on srv2 (Time out, as the screenshot suggests). DRS is disabled. Here are some shots of my infrastrcuture:

I am assuming that you have FT configured on both hosts?  Also, where does your primary VM live, on SRV1?

You mean networking wise? Yes it's configured in both. My VM is only a test VM, I have tried to enable ft on this machine where it was on srv1, and I tried on srv2 too, still no luck...

"This can occur for a variety of reasons including that there are no other hosts in the cluster, there are no other hosts with HV enabled, data stores are inaccessible, there is no available capacity, or hosts are in maintenance mode." - from the Availability Guide.  Make sure that none of these conditions exist.

None are true. Two new servers, only two VMs. Shared storage accessible (vMotion working fine). VT Enabled on BIOS

Both hosts are licensed for Enterprise?

Have you tried enabling FT with the guest OS turned off?  Check out kb 1008027 for more info.

Yes, it succeeds. But when I turn on the machine, it still cannot power on the secondary machine on the other host... Smiley Sad

Are you able to power on any VMs on the second host?

As a test, disable admission control in the HA configuration and try to power on the FT VM.
