ESX 4.1 Isolation address (default gateway)

Hi,

We are using ESX 4.1 HA 6 node cluster. As per Vmware docs,Cluster should be configured with Isolation address(default gateway) so ESX hosts can ping it before declaring itself as Isolated.

I checked all the ESX server but didn't find the isolation address configured in our environment. Is it mandatory to configure the address or HA will work without it.

Thanks
KM

ESX uses the Service Console's gateway address as default isolation address. Unless you need/want another IP address as the default gateway, there's nothing else you need to configure.

Incase if you have a secondary service console or use differernt IP address as a Isolation address instead of default gateway, you can use das.isolationaddress in HA advanced settings

By default the default gateway configured in the Service Console Port is the Isolation address but it is possible to change the isolation address to another one and it is recommended to configure at least one isolation address and for the redundancy you can configure more than one and how you can configure this this is listed in this attached screenshot. For this go to the cluster --- edit settings --- vsphere ha ---- click on advanced options button and then write the values like it is written the screenshot.

Hope this may answer your query
