New tool to backup your ESXi and more !

Hi there,

I just want to let you know that I publicly released a few helpful tools for VMware vSphere.

In this post I will tell you more about ESXi Configuration Backup.

ESXi Configuration Backup is an automating tool for saving configurations of multiple ESXi.

Its features are :

  • Automatically backup multiple ESXi v4 & v5 configurations
  • Manages basic retentions and deletes expired backup
  • Creates a single archive per backup containing one file per ESXi
  • Add a file containing exact build numbers of each ESXi in backup archive
  • Compress backups to save space
  • Portable software

This tool is for Windows only (it's coded using the excellent AutoIT framework) and it uses vSphere CLI.

You can also try iSCSI AutoConf which is a software to help you create iSCSI configuration for ESXi and LinuxLive USB Creator a tool to create Live USB but it can be used to create a USB installer for ESXi v4 & 5.

I released a new version.

ESXi Configuration Backup 1.1 :

  • Password are now stored encrypted (AES-256)
  • New graphical user interface to set up the software (servers, backup folder and retention)
  • Improved reporting at the end of each backup

I released a new version today and it has some great new features.

This software is now called vSphere Configuration Backup because this new version is also able to backup any local SQL databases (such as vCenter DB) !

This is a Beta version because of this new feature, feedbacks would be very appreciated.

I also improved reporting (there is a summary at the end of the process) and a few other improvements (read changelog in README.TXT for more info).
