We have a home-grown cloud solution for our clients, based around vSphere 4.1. This consists of a self-service portal for the clients to provision and manage their VMs in. The one missing link here is direct console access for the times when they screw things up like firewalls and network settings, to allow the client direct console access to rectify the issue on their own. It needs to be secure and not require exposing vCenter or ESX ports to the internet directly.
Now, I know this can be done, as vCloud Director has a VM Console proxy function in it, so the technology is there. Has anyone else found a solution for this that (a) doesn't involve vCD and (b) is secure and doesn't expose the infrastructure ports directly to the client (whether internally or via the internet) ?
