I have a FT-enabled VM and vCenter Operations Manager is reporting a 6.0 percent memory stress. Should I add more RAM for this VM?
While the VM is selected in the navigation panel, select the Planning tab, from there select Views and click on Stress in the Views Gallery. You should see in the Undersized chart what % memory your VM is undersized. This will help you decide how much additional vRAM is needed.
I would also look at workload, specifically the overall workload for memory and chart that out for the last 7 days to see if you have a regular pattern of sustained high memory workload. If it's a blip caused by backups at 2am, for example, you may not want to increase the memory. On the other hand if the VM is showing undersized by 20% and the high workload is during business hours then I would add vRAM for sure.
How long has vC Ops been running in your environment?
It's been running for almost a week. I re-sized the VM, adding an additional gig of vRAM, but it's still showing an alert with 25% memory stress.
You really would want to let vC Ops run for at least a couple of weeks before acting on anything.
OK, thx.
