Back up solution for vC Ops

Hello Guys,

I am looking for a backup solution for the vcops. My scenario is we have a vcops 5.0.3 with 2.4 TB spreaded among three Luns. What are the possibilities of the back up. if i take a snapshot how much would it consume Approximately?

If i move the vcops on to NAS from SAN i guess we dont have any issues with backup or snapshots? But in the vcops enterprise guide in the backup section i have seen that the vcops cannot run on NAS file systems. Is this some thing true?

Any help is appreciated.

The recommended option is to use VDP (formerly known as VDR).

Hello guys,

Thanks for all your replys's. I have gone through those  KB articles where the one instance of VDR is restricted to back up the vApp which has only 1500 machines. But i have more than 1500 machines running per each instance of the vApp. Also as i said i have each 1TB lun where the 2.4 TB is shared as 800Gb per lun.

Also the Enterprise admin guide says vcops cannot support NAS.

Hello Alex,

If we consider using the SRM for the backup of the vC Ops then can we replicate the vC Ops on to the NAS instead of SAN. Can the SRM retrive the vC Ops from the NAS at disaster recovery time.

Unfortunately I am not aware of such SRM specifics. Probably you can also ask your question in SRM community - http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn/server/vcenter/srm

I am sure there will be experts to answer it. Basically it is no londer VCOps specific, but more about what are the SRM capabilities in this regard.
