We have a small network with two physical servers running two VMs. I'm unable to install vCenter on these, as an error is thrown that vCenter cannot be installed on a domain contoller. I have a workstation that is just used to manage the VMs and has the vSphere client installed in addition to vRanger Pro. The problem with installing vCenter on this machine is that vRanger recommends vCenter NOT be installed on the same system. All other systems on the network are workstations that have users logged in throughout the day. Is there an option I'm overlooking?
Thanks
Maybe the most straight forward option is to setup an additional VM on which you install vCenter Server. Starting with version 5.0 VMware introduced the vCenter Server Appliance which eliminates the need of an additional Windows license. However, afaik the vCenter Server Appliance is not supported by vRanger yet!?

Yeah, this is a very good feature in vSphere 5 that we donnot need the Windows server for the vCenter Server.
Only thing is no linked mode for vCenter when run as a appliance.
Not only Linked Mode is currently missing, there are some more features which are not available in version 1.0.

I see. Thanks for the link.
And it has no Update Manager, no heartbeat...
