We had an alert from VCops today and the root cause was listed as Datastore Demand Indicator, at the time of the alert this had risen from 1 to 5, see attached graph. The datastore in question only stores templates and there was nothing (that I'm aware of) happennning at the time IE Nobody was messing with the templates and nobody was deploying new VM's from them.
My question is what is "Datastore Demand Indicator" Is this a roll up metric of other smaller ones combined together and if so which ones.
On a slightly bigger note, are all the Vsphere/Vcenter related metrics (IE those that come via the VC Connector) documented anywhere as to what the definition of each metric atcually is?
Thanks
Brett
Hi Brett,
do you have thin-provisioned virtual disks on this datastore and the remaining space pretty much getting low?
Michael
No all virtual disks on this datastore are prov eager zeroed thick.
Brett
Hi Brett,
About your second question here are two links that may help you better understand the VC metrics used by VCOps:
http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-5600
Or the raw VC API level doc:
