Does vCAC support integration with CMDB and vCenter Orchestrator?

Hello,

We are trying to configure vCAC accordingly to support some of out  internal requests but didn't find much information in the documents. We  are hoping if any one of you would be able to help and provide some documentation for  the below:

1] If we can integrate vCAC with the Service management/CMDB where in a  new VM created or a new tenant(or anything new) created would automatically create a new  CI in CMDB, is there any integration guide to help achieve this?

2] does vCAC support integration with vCenter Orchestration and guide to help achieve this?

It would be of great help if you could help us understand this as we  didn't much information in the vCAC documentation or product's online  help.

thanks

You can certainly do both within vCAC, but as you pointed out the documentation leaves a bit to be desired around these topics.  That said I am working on building blog posts regarding both of these topics, but I do not have them covered yet.

vCAC does have OOB support for vCO.  It is able to execute vCO workflows and pass paramaters through to them as well as receive a response from vCO on the status of the executed workflows.  This is a rather simplistic explanation, but the answer is yes.

The workflow designer in vCAC make sit really easy to intergate with CMDB's and other exteranal systems.  I hope to have a very detailed article on this within the next few days so stay tuned.

Thanks Sid for your quick response. Appreciate your feedback. I will look forward to your blogs on these topics. Now that the answer is Yes, I have a few follow up questions

1] Does vCAC and vCO communicate with each other built in or need any additional configurations after vCAC installation?

2] I haven't installed any component called workflow designer as part of vCAC installation. Does it come as part of vCAC or need to purchase it as a product? How do we get access to designer?

3] Do we need the vCAC development kit for any of the above?

thanks

There is some configuration that is needed for vCAC to vCO intergation, but it is an out fo the box configuration.  In most cases connecting to a CMDB in they way you would like does not require the CDK add-on license.  The Designer comes with the standard product but it is in a sepeate download called the Development Kit.  You can find it here:

Here is an article about using the workflow desinger to execute powershell scripts.  Not specifically about making a call to a CMDB, but the process is the same, just different script.

For vCO -> vCAC there is a vCAC plug-in on VMware solution exchange.

We have customers automating the creation of the vCAC entities to on-board their customers.

Christophe.
